Handcuffed man hits sheriff's deputy with squad car in Eagle Grove

September 16, 2020. Summarized by summa-bot.

The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation confirmed to KCCI Tuesday that it is assisting in the investigation of a shooting involving an officer in Eagle Grove.

A Fort Dodge man is in custody Tuesday after allegedly running over a Wright County sheriff's deputy with his own squad car, prompting the deputy to fire his gun in return. The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation said authorities responded to reports of a fight in Goldfield when they spotted a man believed to be involved in Eagle Grove. The Wright County Sheriff's Office conducted a traffic stop and found that the driver, 31-year-old Fort Dodge resident Sean McMillan, was driving while barred and in possession of a handgun. A sheriff's deputy placed McMillan in handcuffs and sat him in the passenger seat of a squad car. The Iowa DCI said McMillan then "jumped the console of the squad car," hit the gas pedal and struck the sheriff’s deputy. “While he is dealing with the second subject that was in the car, the guy slipped his cuffs underneath his legs, jumped the center console, put the vehicle in reverse and floored it and hit the deputy,” Wright County Sheriff Jason Schluttenhofer said.
